Healthy Eats: Amsterdam- 'Juice and Salad'

Going on holiday is a really easy way to break your diet. Eating out at restuarants for all of  your meals, the excitement of being somewhere different, food options that you don't get to have very often... all of these combine to make sticking to your goals a little bit more difficult.

Well, not in Amsterdam, not for us anyway. With a little research, Terrence and I were able to find some incredibly awesome, super healthy options.

One of these places is 'Juice and Salad' at 135 Vijzelstraat, Amsterdam. They offer salads, sandwiches, and fresh juices all themed by world region, North and South America, Africa, Europe, Australia, and 'Oriental'. Each of the 'regional dishes' is made up of flavors that are associated with that area of the world. Sometimes, I confess, I missed the connection, but, I honestly didn't really care because it tasted marvelous.

Terrence and I both had the 'Australian' juice (kiwi, lime and orange):

The 'Australian' Salad (Arugula, Macadamia Nut, Feta, Dandelion, Boiled Beets, Cherry Tomatoes, and their Homemade Honey-Mustard Vinaigrette):

And, Pumpkin Soup:

Needless to say, we were in vegetarian AND healthy eating heaven. We loved it so much we went back twice. (we're creatures of good habits)

It's also worth mentioning that the cafe itself was a very hip, industrial looking spot with bright colors, cute servingware (soups and sandwiches are served on wooden butcher blocks) and various healthy bars, chips, chocolates being offered for takeaway.

We ended our ENORMOUS meal with our new favorite thing, fresh mint tea. (Yup, exactly what it sounds like. Fresh mint leaves steeped in boiling water. The locals add honey, but we thought it was so refreshing that throughout our trip we enjoyed it without)

So, if you're ever in Amsterdam, stop in and eat well.

Be healthy xx
